Review

Not going to lie, this book felt like I was in a therapy session. So deeply emotional and portrays trauma in such a real way that was sometimes exhausting. Don’t get me wrong, this book is beautifully written, but definitely not a RomCom. If you are in it for the romance, forget it! This isn’t it.

The insta-love did bother me a little in the beginning, but I understood that was necessary for the premise of the long distance relationship though. Also, the fact that they were barely together and when they finally managed to be together, they still had to deal with a lot of what’s happening in Sam’s family life; unbalanced the story a little bit. It was sometimes exhausting to read as it features heavy life topics. There are a lot traumatic events both main characters were going or went through and also discussion around animal abuse. I just needed a little break at times. You know, just enjoy seeing these two inside their love bubble without any outside interference.

However, I’m still very happy to have finally read this book. I loved Xavier to pieces. He gave his all to make things work between him and Sam. He was an amazingly supportive partner through each of Samantha’s crises while working through his own trauma and also exhaustion. What an incredible man he is! The epic book boyfriend material.

“If you had the power to erase every memory you have of me so you didn’t know what you were missing, would you do it?” she asked.

“No, I wouldn’t do it,” I said without even thinking about it.

“Why?”

“Because life wouldn’t be worth living if I didn’t remember you.” She looked like she didn’t believe me.

“But it’s so hard though,” she said.

“Would you erase the memories of your grandma so you wouldn’t feel the way you feel right now?”

“No.”

“Some things are worth remembering, Samantha. No matter how much they hurt.”

That! That right there won all my heart for this story… 🥹

“Normally I wouldn’t believe anything nice someone said to me,” I said quietly. “But it must be true or I wouldn’t have you.”

Oh Xavier! You were the heart in this book. You were the reason I fell in love with this book. Thank you for making me believe that for love everything is worth it.

Thank you @librofm for this amazing audiobook. Matt Lanter voice was perfect to Xavier! Loved the whole performance and the duet with Christine Lakin.

Blurb

From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Just for the Summer comes a new playful yet deeply emotional contemporary romance.

There might be no such a thing as a perfect guy, but Xavier Rush comes disastrouslyclose. A gorgeous veterinarian giving Greek god vibes—all while cuddling a tiny kitten? Immediately yes. That is until Xavier opens his mouth and proves that even sculpted gods can say the absolute wrong thing. Like, really wrong. Of course, there’s nothing Samantha loves more than proving an asshole wrong…

. . . unless, of course, he can admit he made a mistake. But after one incredible and seemingly endless date—possibly the best in living history—Samantha is forced to admit the truth, that her family is in crisis and any kind of relationship would be impossible. Samantha begs Xavier to forget her. To remember their night together as a perfect moment, as crushing as that may be.

Only no amount of distance or time is nearly enough to forget that something between them. And the only thing better than one single perfect memory is to make a life—and even a love—worth remembering.
