From fiction to nonfiction, from romance to thriller, from hot new releases to under-the-radar gems, here’s all shesaidyestobooks’ favorites of 2023. The Never King by Nikki St. Crowe Series: Vicious Lost Boys #1 ➥ Young Adult Romantasy Content Warning: The stories were all wrong — Hook was never the villain. For two centuries, all of the Darling women have disappeared on their 18th birthday. Sometimes they’re gone for only a day, some a week or a month. But they always return broken. Now, on the afternoon of my 18th birthday, my mother is running around the house making sure all the windows are barred and the doors locked. But it’s…

The Dixon Rule by Elle Kennedy
𝒞𝑜𝓃𝓉𝑒𝓃𝓉:college sport romance, enemies to lovers, frenemies with benefits, fake dating, next door neighbors. I love some good banter and Elle Kennedy did not disappoint with this one. I loved the banter between Shane and Diana. I really felt the connection between these two. Seeing their relationship change over the course of the book was so fun, and really really cute. My only criticism is that the book was a bit too long. Some of the scenes felt like were written only to add pages to the book. I also found the dad drama close to the end SO unnecessary. Overall, a fun and cute read. Their back and forth…

Honey Cut by Sierra Simone
𝒞𝑜𝓃𝓉𝑒𝓃𝓉:dark romance, age gap, arranged marriage, love triangle, bdsm, mystery, cheating, polyamorous, cliffhanger. I tend to skim sex scenes when they go on for several pages and there is just a lot in the book— but Sierra Simone does it masterfully. There is no one else who writes a sex scene like her. You just can’t get enough!! 🔥😮💨 I am only giving it 4 because this one flowed a little slower for me than the previous book. But damn! I cannot wait for the sequel. That ending was shocking!! “Think before you sign your safety away because your safeword will be the only armor I leave you with.“ I…

God of War by Rina Kent
𝒞𝑜𝓃𝓉𝑒𝓃𝓉:mafia, marriage of convenience, amnesia, virgin heroine, touch her & die, enemies to lovers. I am conflicted about this book. It definitely has some great parts. There is definitely tension and chemistry between the main characters. And the banter was delicious. I really enjoyed reading some parts but it wasn’t perfect. I did have a few issues with it. 1- Ava was one of my biggest problem here. She does very stupid things and childish to provoke Eli, and that made her came off like a brat. Very immature and childish. She lacked substance and character development. 3- Some parts of the book felt very middle school. Like the part…

The Rom-Commers by Katherine Center
𝒞𝑜𝓃𝓉𝑒𝓃𝓉:enemies to lovers, grumpy X sunshine. The Rom-Commers started out strong but it goes downhill as you read. In the end I couldn’t connect with either main characters. Both of them were pretty disappointing. Also, there is absolutely NO chemistry between these two. I wanted to love it so much more but sadly I found myself dragging through it. I don’t mean to challenge somebody else’s opinion; however, The Rom-Commers was not to my liking. “Whatever story you tell yourself about your life, that’s the one that’ll be true.“ Emma Wheeler desperately longs to be a screenwriter. She’s spent her life studying, obsessing over, and writing romantic comedies―good ones! That…

Cruel Seduction by Katee Robert
𝒞𝑜𝓃𝓉𝑒𝓃𝓉:marriage of convenience; enemies to lovers; mythology retelling; polyamorous; mmff relationship. What a glorious hot mess these four make when their emotions get tangled up!! Whew!😮💨 This series is always full of delectable spice, mythological references, and all the olympus world drama. I thoroughly enjoyed this story and the evolution of the characters. I only found Pandora and Aphrodite’s relationship underdeveloped. But I loved Theseus, Aphrodite and Adonis! “It never lasts, but there’s sweetness even in loss.“ He was my enemy. My lover. My husband. And the one man I swore by all Olympus I would destroy. Aphrodite has never flinched at getting her perfectly manicured hands dirty, and she’s…

Crossroads by Devney Perry
𝒞𝑜𝓃𝓉𝑒𝓃𝓉:second chances, cowboy romance, small town, childhood friends, workplace, forced proximity, it’s always been you, right person wrong time, dual timeline. I didn’t really understand their relationship. Why did they hate each other so much in the present? They met once a year for a week every year since they were kids, they ended up sleeping together when they were older, but once she left the ranch, they never kept in touch for the rest of the year until she was back in town. They never dated, they were only hookups. I just could not understand why they hated each other so much if they never once discussed their relationship…

Collide by Bal Khabra
𝒞𝑜𝓃𝓉𝑒𝓃𝓉: college sports romance, forced proximity, he falls firs, black cat girl & golden retrivier boy, full of swooniness; great dialogue & banter, slow burn. The way I ate this up…I had to force myself to put the book down when I needed it, and that’s when you know it’s that good… Aiden is top tier book boyfriend material. He is sweet, caring, selfless and has the patience of a saint! Sorry Summer, but you could be really annoying sometimes 🤭 but the way Aiden handled her had me swooning! The warm and cozy feelings that I got while reading this was unmatched! Cannot wait til more from this series…

Check & Mate by Ali Hazelwood
𝒞𝑜𝓃𝓉𝑒𝓃𝓉:rivals to lovers, he falls first, sports romance, virgin hero, slow burn. Check & Mate is a really cute RomCom set in the world of Chess. I don’t play chess, and I don’t know much about the game, but this did not impact my enjoyment of this story. It was easy to read and lose myself within. It was smart, sweet and unique! And the audiobook was fantastic, a definite enhancement to an already great story. Thank you so much @librofm for the gifted copy of this audiobook. I’m so grateful for our partnership! “I look at him looking at me, and overflow with something I cannot put a name…
