Review
I read this book a couple of years ago and never posted a review on instagram or any social media of mine because I get so many haters. Readers of dark romances are not opened for a debate. They feel attacked by your opinion, they get offended so they attack you back as if you were attacking them only for sharing your thoughts. But why shouldn’t I? I think it’s great for readers to see different opinions and take the decision by themselves if that book will be good for them.
So if you are interested in what I have to say about this book, put on your reading glasses and let’s dive in, because this will be a long review just like the book was.
First off I gotta say I was more lost than a blind person in a maze. So many multiple subplots going on there. The heroine was trying to solve her great grandmother’s murder. Oh and her great grandmother was also having a spicy affair with a stalker. Zade was trying to kill politicians that are practicing ritual child sacrifice. While he himself didn’t fall that far from the tree. Such an hypocrite! Oh and let’s not forget that the heroine herself was being stalked too.
About that… May I add just how stupid Addie was? All Addie’s decisions from the very beginning were stupid, infuriating, and unrealistic. Hard to believe that a girl that was being stalked and receiving threats over her phone and body parts of men that touched her as a warning from her stalker wasn’t even a little afraid and did nothing to keep her safety. So stupid!
Now the most important thing I have to say about this book. RAPE! One more of SO many books out there that is romanticizing rape. This is being thrown into too many books by too many authors who have no understanding of how this can affect negatively someone’s life in real life.
I know it’s suppose to be dark romance but I truly feel like some people excuse A LOT behind that term. If you watch some true crimes shows, you will see that the stories there are not any different than the stories in these books but the book are disguised and sold as a romance novel.
While we all know it’s fiction, we have to understand that authors are a big influence in their reader’s life. What they write or say in their books will in a certain way influence them. I do hope that we do better as a society and think about how the content of an art we put out shapes and affects someone’s life, positively or negatively. It’s really dangerous to glorify men like Zade and have so many young readers on tiktok and instagram reading this and thinking this is something acceptable. I, wholeheartedly, do not understand how anybody can find this romantic.
* Some eye rolling quotes *
“Let me know which stars you prefer. The ones above you, or the ones I make you see.”
“You are in my church where I am your God, and you are my equal. I’m not a jail, little mouse, I am your sanctuary.”
“Tell me, little mouse, have you ever been fucked by a man like me?”
“It’s not right—how beautiful he is. He’s definitely the fucking Devil. I’m sure of it now more than ever.”
“A gun in your pussy certainly is traumatizing, little mouse, but only because I used it to make you come, not to make you bleed.”

The Manipulator
I can manipulate the emotions of anyone who lets me.
I will make you hurt, make you cry, make you laugh and sigh.
But my words don’t affect him. Especially not when I plead for him to leave.
He’s always there, watching and waiting.
And I can never look away.
Not when I want him to come closer.
The Shadow
I didn’t mean to fall in love.
But now that I have, I can’t stay away.
I’m mesmerized by her smile, by her eyes, and the way she moves.
The way she undresses…
I’ll keep watching and waiting. Until I can make her mine.
And once she is, I’ll never let her go.
Not even when she begs me to.
