House of Earth and Blood by Sarah J. Maas

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.

Review

I hate that the Part 1 of the graphic audiobook felt like a chore to me. I did love Part 2, but it was not pleasant to get to that point. No book should take this long to start being enjoyable.

And I gotta say, while I really enjoy Hunt and Bryce together in part 2. My annoyance with it is that SJM held all the sexual tension for Part 2, you don’t really feel the chemistry between them, there is just no sparks to catch our interest in their story up to the second part. I was even doubting it would have any romance in it at all.

Overall, the plot is good once things started moving along. It is slow moving, and I almost threw in the towel! There’s just no reason why this book is 803 pages long. But Part 2 was really fun.  I really enjoyed it. I think I can only give this book 3.5 stars in the end. Although I DID like it by the end, I cannot forget how much I struggled to get there. I’ll give the next book a try, hoping I will have a better experience.

Through love, all is possible.

You’re the person I don’t need to explain myself to – not when it matters. You see everything I am, and you don’t run away from it.”

Remember that you will die, and enjoy each pleasure the world has to offer.

Bryce Quinlan had the perfect life-working hard all day and partying all night-until a demon murdered her closest friends, leaving her bereft, wounded, and alone. When the accused is behind bars but the crimes start up again, Bryce finds herself at the heart of the investigation. She’ll do whatever it takes to avenge their deaths.

Hunt Athalar is a notorious Fallen angel, now enslaved to the Archangels he once attempted to overthrow. His brutal skills and incredible strength have been set to one purpose-to assassinate his boss’s enemies, no questions asked. But with a demon wreaking havoc in the city, he’s offered an irresistible deal: help Bryce find the murderer, and his freedom will be within reach.

As Bryce and Hunt dig deep into Crescent City’s underbelly, they discover a dark power that threatens everything and everyone they hold dear, and they find, in each other, a blazing passion-one that could set them both free, if they’d only let it.

With unforgettable characters, sizzling romance, and page-turning suspense, this richly inventive new fantasy series by #1 New York Times bestselling author Sarah J. Maas delves into the heartache of loss, the price of freedom-and the power of love.
