Is She Really Going Out with Him? by Sophie Cousens

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Review

There is so much that I enjoyed about this book. The humor was fun and the romance was sweet and believable. The subject of handling a divorce with children and new partners was written in a very realistic way.

Anna growth was what I liked best in this book. I loved seeing her gaining confidence in her job and with her ex, and also finding love after the divorce. The miscommunication between the main characters did frustrate me a little sometimes but not enough to make me annoyed with the story. The side characters were also interesting and engaging including the children, and even Anna’s ex husband.

Is She Really Going Out with Him was, overall, a great story about the frustrations and the emotional walls that come from divorce. The Google searches at the beginning of each chapter was 10/10 hysterical!

“Maybe I’ve gone off limes entirely. He’s reinvented himself as “Daniel,” he’s become a totally different person, living in a different house with a different woman, and here I am, just the same, drinking the same predictable drink.”

“Why do I care about Will’s dating policy? Am I jealous that it’s easy for him? Maybe I am offended to be outside his search criteria. Not because I have any interest in him myself, but because Will’s tastes reflect what most men are looking for—young, fertile, baggage-free. Most men are not looking for someone like me. Dan can easily date a woman in her twenties; he could have five more kids if he wanted to. It’s only women who seem to have a sell-by date.”

“There is a whole new chapter waiting for you, all you need to do is keep turning the pages.”

A hilarious love story about a disillusioned divorcée who agrees to let her children play matchmaker.

Columnist Anna Appleby has left her love life behind after a painful divorce. Who needs a man when she has two kids, a cat, and uncontested control of the TV remote? Besides, she’d rather be single than subject herself to the hell of online dating. But her office rival is vying for her column, and no column means no stable source of income. In a desperate attempt to keep her job, Anna finds herself pitching a unique angle: seven dates, all found offline, chosen by her children.

From awkward encounters to unexpected connections, Anna gamely begins to put herself out there, asking out waiters, the mailman, and even her celebrity crush. But when a romantic connection appears where she least expected it, will she be brave enough to take another chance on love?
