Mate by Ali Hazelwood

Rating: 2 out of 5.

Review

I read Bride last year. I don’t remember much other than I really loved the banter and the characters dynamic. I was looking forward to this one, but sadly, this didn’t meet my expectations.

Koen kept pushing Serena away. Over and over. He was cold and distant for so much of the book just to turn around and decided he was in love with her. Just like that! Huh??? What??? Where was the buildup? The tension? The slow burn?

Honestly, the characters were poorly developed. They have no personality, no chemistry and terrible dialogue. The plot was also barely there. I was underwhelmed.

˚₊· ͟͟͞͞➳❥ This is book 2 in the Bride Series. Each book in this series features a different couple and can be read as a complete standalone. But for maximum enjoyment, follow the recommended reading order.

Bride Series:

  1. Bride
  2. Mate

❝ Cute, how she thinks he’d ever let her out of his sight.❞

❝ She’s an adult Were who doesn’t require coddling,” Koen interrupts. Once again, a bit jarring to hear, especially as he rolls thick, soft socks up my shins.❞

❝ The only thing he’s ready to tell me is that he’ll have me institutionalized.❞

A Human hybrid and an Alpha Were claw against the bonds of fate in the highly anticipated companion novel to the New York Times bestselling Bride.

Serena Paris is orphaned, pack-less, and one of a kind. Coming forward as the first Human-Were hybrid was supposed to heal a centuries-long rift between species. Instead, it made her a target, prey to the ruthless political machinations between Weres, Vampyres, and Humans. With her enemies closing in on her, she has only one option left—if he’ll have her.

As Alpha of the Northwest pack, Koen Alexander commands obedience. His authority is so absolute, only a fool would threaten his mate. It doesn’t matter if Serena doesn’t reciprocate his feelings, nothing will stop him from keeping her safe.

But power-hungry Vampyres and Weres are not the only threats chasing Serena. Sooner or later, her past is bound to catch up with her—and Koen might be the only thing standing between her and total annihilation…
