The Night We Met by Abby Jimenez

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Review

I finished this not sure how to rate this, and having no f**king idea how I felt about this book. I hated it just as much as I loved it.

I didn’t review it right after I finish as I usually do because I needed some time to process everything. Honestly, I wasn’t comfortable with what was happening there but I was also SO into these two that best friend’s boundaries became blur to me and I caught myself rooting for them. And that’s exactly what was making me so uncomfortable. Let’s be honest, it wasn’t Chris place to make Larissa happy but his friend! There is a passage in the book that shows exactly that!

❝ I started shoveling. I got madder the longer it took. Not because I had to do it—I didn’t care about that—but because he shouldn’t be okay with her doing this herself. Larissa was a capable woman, she could dig out a car. But why the fuck should she have to? What was he doing to make sure her life was easier? Or safer? Why didn’t this bother him? It wasn’t my job to worry about her. It was his job. And this is how he did it.❞

Well, buddy, if she’s still with him he must be doing something right, so mind your own business! It wasn’t his place and he should put some distance there. But he didn’t! He never did. And being brutally honest here, if my best friend does that to me I would never forgive her for it. That’s one of the worst betrayal we can face in life. And that is the part I hated in the book. The way these two fell in love for each other is simply one of the worst way two people can fall in love with in life. But that’s life. Life is messy. $hit happens!

That being sad, this book was extremely well written. I felt for Chris, I also felt for Mike and also their friendship that would never be the same after this the more they tried! Abby Jimenez is a very talented author and she made me feel all the emotions in her writing. Every.single.one! I cannot give this book less than 5 stars even though the story didn’t sit well with me. And I must admit! She made me fall for Christopher too… 🥹

Say You’ll Remember Me Series:

❝ Life buries us. We get heavier and heavier as time goes on and we labor under the layers we’ve collected. Sometimes the layers make us who we are and sometimes they make us someone else entirely.❞

❝ Who really knows what’s the best or worst thing you’ve ever done? Because you’re not always there to see how big the ripple gets.❞

❝ Maybe this isn’t the kind of love that deserves to exist. Maybe it’s the kind that wars start over. The kind that topples empires and never leaves the world better than it found it.❞

From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Say You’ll Remember Me comes a beautiful, compelling novel that revels in laughter, friendship, and the messy choices life can throw our way.

In everyone’s life, there’s a split-second decision that can change everything…

For Larissa, it came when choosing who to ride home with after a concert. That night, she had no idea she’d met the perfect man. She and Chris are great friends, co-parenting a slightly unhinged rescue Yorkie, sharing their favorite books, and judging bread (pumpernickel for the win!). For the first time amid all her side hustles to scrape by, things finally feel easy.

But she didn’t choose Chris to drive her home all those months ago—she went with his best friend, and he became her boyfriend. All Chris wants is for Larissa to be happy. Standing by on the sidelines is slowly killing him, but making a move would destroy someone else. How can something that feels so right be absolutely impossible?
