Culpa Nuestra by Mercedes Ron

Rating: 2.5 out of 5.

Review

For me, the worst of the trilogy. I am not happy with the way this story unfolded. It’s sad to see a trilogy that had so much potential in the first book goes downhill as the series progress.

I’ll start with what bothered me the most.

Nick’s infidelity! This is something that has been totally ignored in the last 2 books as it wasn’t important at all. But surprise, surprise! Kissing someone who isn’t your partner is ALSO infidelity.

And let’s not forget that this was the beginning of everything.

“It was just a stupid kiss, a stupid kiss I gave out of anger because I was mad at you, and yes, I was a bastard because I took advantage of your jealousy for Sophia to get back at you.”

So he can kiss another girl to get revenge. But Noah can’t return the courtesy because she was hurt? Yeah, yeah… it wasn’t just a kiss. But who started it? When you don’t want to get hurt, you don’t hurt anyone, buddy. Think before you shit! Your actions has consequences.

Then Nick has the audacity to date Sophia in this book? The bastard!! The way Nick hurts Noah here is unforgivable. I wanted her to get over him and be happy with someone else.

But the Noah in this book would never give her a chance of happiness again. She went from being a strong girl who wouldn’t let herself to be manipulated by any man, to a weak, voiceless, with no self-respect at all girl who allowed to be stepped on by Nick all the time just to get little pieces of his attention.

And Nick I don’t think there was a time when I really liked him here. He kept justifying his abusive behavior on Noah’s infidelity. Forgetting all about his doing.

But the cherry of the cake here is Noah’s unexpected pregnancy. Oops, I think someone forgot that Noah had like almost zero chance to have children when she was writing this book. But that’s not even why I am mad because in almost zero chance there is still a chance, right?! I’m mad because Noah needed to get pregnant to get Nick back. That left a bad taste in my mouth.

And the last but not least, I have no idea why the author didn’t address to Noah’s sexually abuse in the previous book. She had admitted in an interview that Michael actually drugged Noah. And to be honest, that was I was actually looking forward to in this book. Seeing Noah and Nick finding out somehow that Michael raped her by slipping something in her drink. Seeing them overcome this together and growing as a couple and person together would have been beautiful. This author missed a great opportunity here.

Anyways. I am still excited for the movies. But for the first time I wish the producers change mostly everything that is in the books.

“Because misery and degradation, and death, and nothing that God or Satan could inflict would have parted us, you, of your own will, did it. I have not broken your heart—you have broken it; and in breaking it, you have broken mine. So much the worse for me that I am strong. Do I want to live? What kind of living will it be when you—oh, God! would you like to live with your soul in the grave?”

Blurb

Nick and Noah’s rocky relationship is struggling through its worst moment, and it seems that nothing can go back to the way it was before. They will have to surmount a new and frightening set of challenges to finally understand if they are really made for each other or if being apart is their only chance to be happy.

Love is not always enough, and forgiveness sometimes doesn’t fix what’s been broken. But can you forget such a strong connection? How can memories tattooed on the heart be erased? Will they be able to leave the past behind and start over?
